Coverage Policies

Coverage Policies - MYL Classic Games

  • Certified Associate Officials (after any required mentoring) can officiate Grade 1/2 games, preferably with a 2nd Associate Officiate.

  • Certified Associate Officials (after any required mentoring) can officiate Grade 3/4, Grade 5/6, and Grade 7/8 games with an EMLOA Official

  • Senior Associate Officials can officiate Grade 1/2 games alone

  • Senior Associate Officials can officiate Grade 3/4 games alone

  • Senior Associate Officials can officiate Grade 3/4, Grade 5/6 and Grade 7/8 games with an EMLOA Official

  • MYL's policy is that there will be 2 officials at 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8 levels. One official for each game must be a certified AO. At the 3/4 level, a Sr. AO and regular AO can be assigned. EMLOA does not assign adult EMLOA officials to 1/2 games. It is each town's TAC (town AO coordinator) to assign AOs to all their home games or reach out to your Regional Referee Coordinator (RRC) for help getting certified AOs from nearby towns.
  • New AOs must be mentored by an EMLOA official before they are considered certified. Mentoring can be done with an EMLOA official at any level game. We typically require at least 2 mentor games before an AO is certified. Returning AOs, including Sr. AOs, do not require mentoring and are certified once they complete their registration, class attendance, and test requirements.
  • If no certified AO can be obtained and the RRC is notified at least a week in advance of the game, the RRC will try to assign a second EMLOA official. If the assigner is unable to get a second EMLOA official due to availability or if there is no certified AO at the field on game day, any EMLOA official who works any 5/6 or 7/8 game alone is paid $110. An EMLOA official, or a Sr. AO, can do a 3/4 game alone at their usual rate. If an EMLOA official is needed for a 1/2 game due to no available AOs, a full game fee is due to the EMLOA official.
  • New this year EMLOA has instituted a certification system to verify AO status prior to each game they are assigned. Due to liablity reasons with EMLOA's provided insurance to certified AO's, only certified AO's can work any youth game, MYL and other youth leagues. Certified AOs will receive a laminated card showing their name and completion of training certification that they must bring to all games and show to their EMLOA partner (or to the teams' head coaches if only AOs are working a game). A picture of their certification card on their phone is acceptable. EMLOA officials will verify the AO has been certified (by card, picture, or online certified roster) at the field.
  • It is the TAC's and the AO's responsibility to provide their respective certification cards prior to each game. If the AO cannot produce their certification card, they cannot work the game for insurance liability reasons. An EMLOA official who has to work any game alone due to an uncertified or unassigned AO will get the $110 game fee as described above.

Please reach out to your RRC with any questions. See the EMLOA AO Resource page for each MYL region's RRC information.
