Rule 7-13 Correction of Errors (Rule Misapplication)

1) Coach asks Bench side official for a discretionary timeout to discuss possible misapplication of a rule.
He can request verbally or request a Horn (short double toot) during dead ball situation.
This request can only happen during the dead ball situation while the rule is being applied or immediately
thereafter. Once play starts, and the ball is live, the coach is no longer entitled to a discretionary timeout.

2) Bench Side Official should address the Coach in the following manner; "Do you feel there was a
misapplication of a rule?" Coach Replies "YES"

3) Signal Time Out and state "My Time Out". Far Side Offical should join you.

4) Ask Coach to come to wing area - Invite other coach out as well.

5) Ask the coach what rule he feels was potentially misapplied. Listen to coach's explanation. Be sure that
the Coach is questioning the application of a rule and not the judgement of a call.

6) If the coach is questioning a judgement call, there is no subsequent discussion except to explain to the
coach that he can not question a judgement call.

7) If his request does relate to a potential rule misapplication, listen to his explanation, and then confer with
your partner regarding the application of the rule

8) After the two officials confer, the Referee makes a decision. If the Referee agrees that the rule was
misapplied, then the rule shall be correctly applied and there is no timeout charged to the team. If the rule
was applied correctly, the team is charged with a timeout and they may use any of the time remaining as a
team timeout. If they have no timeouts, they will either turn the ball over if they have possession, or serve a
30 second penalty if the opposing team has possession.
