January 2007 Newsletter
To all EMLOA Members
Happy New Year!
Please go to the EMLOA website (www.emloa.org) for additional details on the topics below.
Click on January 2007 Newsletter under Correspondence on the Home Page (left side).
I get many phone calls and emails this time of year about different items and questions on the upcoming
season. If I don't get back to you directly, please don't be offended. I try to answer the bulk of them with
these mailings since others may have similar questions. If I don't answer your question, please get back
to me.

US LACROSSE NUMBERS and SS NUMBERS
Some have asked about US Lacrosse Numbers. If you have a membership with and pay dues to US
Lacrosse, as a Player, a Coach, an Administrator or an Official, they assign a membership number to
you. Officials who work College games or MBYLL (Youth League) games are required to be a member of
US Lacrosse (membership levels may differ but both are members). We use the number to reduce our
insurance policy premiums since US Lacrosse provides very similar insurance coverage as our EMLOA
policy.
We need your SS # because many of the High Schools now require a list of names, addresses and SS
#'s of officials working their games so that you can get paid and they can meet their IRS or other
requirements. If you don't feel comfortable mailing your number to us, you can email me or call me with
your number. No Number, No High School Games.
CANDIDATES CLASSES
We need officials everywhere but the most critical area continues to be the Metro West area from the
495 belt in Hopkinton west towards Worcester, south to Blackstone, north to Marlboro, Northboro area.
If you know of anyone who is an official in another sport or interested in becoming one, contact Matt
Croteau. Contact info for Matt Croteau is 508-317-2273 cell, 508-833-0675 home or
me_croteau@yahoo.com email. Also, the training email address is now emloatraining@yahoo.com.
The Candidates Classes start the last week in January. All 2nd and 3rd year officials or any other
EMLOA member who is interested in sharpening up are encouraged to attend one or all of the sessions,
FREE OF CHARGE!!
Go to www.EMLOA.org for more details on the Places, dates and times.
ARBITER
If you plan to officiate High School Lacrosse in 2007, we also need you to do the following:
- Log in to the Arbiter at www.theArbiter.net and confirm
all of your personal information. Address and phone numbers should all be current. If you have a
problem, call Darrell Benson at 508-454-3973 or email at dbenson1@comcast.net.
- While in the Arbiter, complete your Availability for
March 18 thru June 10, 2007.
ANNUAL MANDATORY CLINIC
Clinic Date is March 4, 2007. Registration will start at 8 am and the Clinic will run from 9 am to 1 pm.
Clinic Site is Tufts Dental School Building on Harrison Ave. in downtown Boston. PARKING SHOULD NOT
BE AN ISSUE based on last year's experience. We will be overwhelming you with directions, times,
carpooling, parking and public transportation information in the coming weeks. To date, I have received
absolutley ZERO feedback from members about ways to improve the clinic or topics that you would like
to see - so I can only assume we do an OUTSTANDING job!
THIS IS A MANDATORY CLINIC FOR ALL EMLOA OFFICIALS TO OFFICIATE IN THE 2007 HIGH SCHOOL
SEASON. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND, PLEASE NOTIFY THE EXECUTIVE BOARD IN WRITING NO
LATER THAN THIRTY DAYS (Postmarked by February 2, 2007) PRIOR TO THE CLINIC.
CORI IS HERE
Last year, EMLOA became a CORI certified organization. This will continue again this year. Many of you
will get a separate email in a day or so with a CORI form and instructions for getting it back to Jim
Rourke before Jan. 31, 2007.
More and more schools and Youth organizations are pushing for CORI certification of employees,
volunteers, officials, etc. and, although it is a lot of work, it has not presented any problems to us (YET).
We have a link on the website with additional information and will, again, have a short presentation at the
Clinic addressing the subject.
